Vimeo's MCP server, in public beta at https://mcp.vimeo.com/mcp, gives your AI assistant most of the Vimeo API, except destructive actions such as deleting videos [2]. No official Vimeo command-line tool was found [2].

What an assistant can do

Vimeo's function groups [2]:

  • Search and discovery: videos, a user's videos, across teams
  • Video details: information, transcripts, chapters, comments, text tracks
  • Analytics: performance, geography, viewer retention and drop-off
  • Organisation: create and manage showcases, add videos to collections
  • Video management: titles, descriptions, privacy settings, chapters, content ratings
  • Vimeo Create: editing sessions, text and media, rendering

Read, write and delete

Reading and editing work. Vimeo's sample prompts include password-protecting a video and rewriting titles and descriptions [2].

Delete endpoints are the only ones without MCP support [2].

Prompts are English only for now [2].

How to connect

Claude: add a custom connector named Vimeo with the first URL below, then enable it in a chat's tools menu [2].

ChatGPT: the same, with the /sse URL [2].

VS Code (GitHub Copilot agent mode): run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, enter the URL and an ID such as vimeo, then sign in to Vimeo in the browser [2].

  • Vimeo recommends Pro or above, with best results on Enterprise; no plan is stated as required. Available actions may vary by plan [2].
