Frame.io MCP server, CLI and API

Frame.io's MCP server, https://mcp.frame.io/v1/mcp, has been in public beta since 7 October 2026. Within your Frame.io permissions, an assistant can read and write review comments, manage shares and reviewers, upload media and delete content [2][3]. It needs a V4 account with an Adobe ID; Legacy accounts are not supported [2].

What an assistant can do

Each tool is labelled Setup, Read, Write, Delete or Feedback [2], and calls an endpoint the API already exposed [3].

  • Read: read_context, search_assets, read_assets, read_comments, read_shares, read_members, list_metadata_fields, list_recently_deleted, get_upload_status, read_audit_logs [2]
  • Write: write_comments (anchored to a video timecode, PDF page or image position), manage_versions (version stacks of 2 to 10 files), manage_assets (move or copy), change_structure, change_metadata, manage_shares, manage_reviewers, manage_members, upload_media, restore_assets [2]
  • Delete: delete_resources removes files, folders, projects, workspaces, shares, comments or metadata fields [2]

How to connect

Claude Desktop: Customize, Connectors, +, Add custom connector. Enter the name and URL below, click Add, then Connect and sign in with the Adobe ID linked to Frame.io [2]. Test with 'List my Frame.io accounts.'

Frame.io also documents ChatGPT, VS Code, Cursor and GitHub Copilot CLI setup [2].

Adobe Managed Accounts (set up in the Adobe Admin Console): Adobe's login can silently reuse another organisation's browser session, giving empty results or permission errors. Clear Adobe cookies or sign out fully, then reconnect [2].

Permissions

  • A call beyond your role returns a permission error [2].
  • Uploads need Contributor access [2].
  • The MCP docs state no plan requirement.

Approvals and risks

  • In Claude Desktop, read-only and interactive tools both default to 'Needs approval' [2].
  • Frame.io recommends auto-approving read tools only and reviewing every write and delete [2].
  • 'Always allow' means no confirmation or preview. Frame.io's example: 'organize these into the right folders' could move files to the wrong place before you check [2].
  • Inviting reviewers emails them; public shares are open to anyone with the link [2].
  • Deleted files and folders can be restored; deleted projects, workspaces, shares, comments and metadata fields cannot [2].
  • read_audit_logs shows who changed a resource and when [2].
